Rings or notifications not arriving
A step-by-step checklist when the phone stays silent: notification permission, Android battery settings, Do Not Disturb and Focus, and the doorbell itself.
A ring reaches you as a notification. If the phone is silent, the visitor waits at the door and leaves. Go through this list in order; most cases are solved in the first three steps.
1. Allow notifications for Qoorbell
The first time you open the app it asks to send notifications: video calls and rings the moment they happen, and messages visitors leave you — nothing else, no promotions. If you tapped “Not now”, or turned them off later, the app shows “Notifications are turned off for Qoorbell in your phone’s settings.” Open your phone’s settings, find Qoorbell, turn notifications on and come back.
2. On Android: let the app work in the background
Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery, and the ring is dropped before it sounds. Set Qoorbell’s battery use to Unrestricted:
- Most phones: Settings > Apps > Qoorbell > Battery > Unrestricted.
- Samsung: Settings > Battery > Background usage limits — remove Qoorbell from Sleeping apps and turn off “Put unused apps to sleep”.
- Xiaomi: enable Autostart for Qoorbell and set Battery saver to No restrictions.
The app shows these steps once, and you can open them again any time from the notification settings, under “Rings not arriving?”, with a link to tips for your phone brand.
3. On Android: show rings on the lock screen
Android asks you to allow full-screen notifications so a ring can open the answer screen while the phone is locked. Without it you still get a banner with Answer and Decline for one minute, but it is easy to miss.
4. Do Not Disturb and Focus
Rings respect Do Not Disturb. On Android, to be rung anyway, allow Qoorbell under Do Not Disturb > Apps. On iPhone and iPad a ring is a regular notification, so a Focus mode silences it unless Qoorbell is in that Focus’s allowed apps; check Settings > Focus, and Settings > Notifications > Qoorbell.
5. Check the doorbell itself
- Its status is Active. A doorbell that is turned off shows “This doorbell is off. Scanning it will not ring anyone.”
- Its availability hours: outside them the doorbell does not ring, and messages arrive without a sound.
- You are the owner or a member of it, signed in on this phone with the same account.
- The poster has the current code. If the code was ever replaced, old posters stop working.
6. Test it
Scan your own poster with another phone and ring. If the ring shows in the app’s history but your phone did not sound, the problem is on the phone (steps 1–4). If it does not show at all, the problem is the doorbell or the poster (step 5).
